5 Things a PIM can improve for your business.

If your business is centered around selling inventory online or even offline, then a PIM is probably a necessary component for your business. A PIM is the bridge between your front end website shopping platform, in-store Point of Sale systems, affiliate sales channels, and internal ERP, CRM, inventory control, and accounting back office systems. So why should you be using a PIM? Here's 5 reasons why your business should be using a PIM.

1. Your business is using a Content Management System for managing your products.

Most CMS platforms have some inventory management capabilities, typically through some sort of out-of-the box plugin or module and therefore lacks a lot of functionality that comes with a true PIM. Because a PIM's whole purpose is to manage your products you have features like rule-based classification, matching and linking capabilities, for example, you can ensure high-quality data no matter the volume of data you onboard.

2. You want to enhance your customer experience.

A PIM will also allow you to display better relevancy by maintaining a single source of the truth for each product across all channels, eliminating inconsistencies and touchpoints for managing your data. This allows for channel-specific or even demographic-specific descriptions. Finally, when you are notified of data errors, a PIM will help you improve future customer experiences by quickly correcting the issues and then immediately pushing the changes to all channels.

3. You want to expand and grow your business.

With a PIM, you can automatically publish new or updated product content to all connected selling channels quickly and accurately. By connecting to the PIM to systems like your eCommerce platforms and ERP systems, a PIM allows you to easily localize product details and content for websites. By having a PIM in place, you save your business the costs of having to manage products as described in our blog last month "You need help managing your products (trust me)."

4. Get products to market faster, gain a competitive advantage.

Your likely are aware that more than three-quarters of shoppers conduct online research before making a big purchase and one-third search on common search engines to start product searches. In the B2B space,71% of B2B buyers start their research with a generic search.

Why are these statistics so important?

If your products are online ahead of your competitors, you have a leg up on the competition. And deploying the right SEO friendly product data can increase your speed to market—basically your products can be found quicker and purchased faster with PIM in place.

5. You get to keep your hair.

Let's be honest, we've all had those nights where we are pouring through spreadsheets and managing stacks of .csv's from all your vendors. Your Chrome window has more tabs open than a Los Angeles nightclub. The most important thing that a PIM does for you is give you back your time.

A PIM functions as a core repository for all product information – providing your business one tool to centralize, merchandise, and sync product data throughout a business. No more managing your inventory through a manual process for every channel, no more pulling your hair out trying to figure out why cell E47 is producing an error.
